Part 1 - Introduction and Interview

Question 1: Do you like the area that you live in?

Sample Answer: Yeah, I really like my area. It's a pretty quiet residential street, which is perfect for me, you know? I value peace and quiet, and it's a nice change from the busy city centre where I used to live. There's a lovely little park just a short walk away, which is great for taking the dog for a walk, or just relaxing with a book on a sunny day. And while it's not bustling with shops and restaurants, there's a good little supermarket and a couple of cafes nearby that are really friendly. It's got a real community feel to it, which I appreciate. Of course, it's not perfect – getting into the city centre can take a bit of time, but overall, I think it's a great place to live.

Question 2: Where do you like to go in that area?

Sample Answer: In my area, I often go to a nearby park because it’s quiet and full of greenery. There’s also a nice coffee shop where I sometimes study or meet friends. I like places that are not too crowded, so I can relax. It’s nice to have peaceful spots nearby.

Question 3: Do you know any famous people in your area?

Sample Answer: Not personally, but there are a few local celebrities from my city. Some are singers or actors who appear on TV. I’ve seen a few at public events, but I’ve never spoken to them. It’s interesting to know someone famous grew up nearby.

Question 4: What are some changes in the area recently?

Sample Answer: Well, the biggest change is definitely the new shopping mall they built on the old industrial estate. It's huge, and it's completely transformed that whole area. Before, it was just derelict buildings and a bit run-down, but now it's bustling with people and shops. There's also been a lot of new apartment blocks going up nearby, which I guess is related to the mall – more people moving in because of the new amenities. On a smaller scale, they've finally repaved the road leading to the park, which was really needed; it used to be full of potholes. And they’ve added some new benches and planted more trees in the park itself, making it much nicer to spend time there. So yeah, quite a few changes, mostly positive I'd say.

Question 5: Do you know any of your neighbors?

Sample Answer: Yes, I know a few of them. We usually say hello or chat when we meet outside. One neighbor even helps us water our plants when we’re away. It’s nice to have friendly people around—it makes the area feel more like a community.

Question 6: Are the people in your neighborhood nice and friendly?

Sample Answer: For the most part, yeah, they are. I mean, it's not like we're all best friends or anything, but everyone's pretty polite. We mostly keep to ourselves, but we'll chat if we bump into each other – you know, the usual "hello" and "how are you?" kind of thing. There's a really friendly older couple a few doors down who always have fresh baked goods to share, which is lovely. And the family with the kids across the street are always out playing in the garden – it's really nice to see. There’s one family who keeps themselves to themselves a bit more, but that's fine, everyone has different personalities, right? Overall, it's a pretty decent neighbourhood; I feel safe and comfortable living here.

Question 7: Which town or city do you live in now?

Sample Answer: I currently live in Brighton, which is a coastal city in the south of England. It's quite a vibrant place, known for its beach, its lively arts scene, and the Lanes – a network of narrow, charming streets packed with independent shops and cafes. It's a pretty big city, but it still feels relatively small and manageable, which I really like. I've lived here for about three years now, and I've really grown to love it.

Question 8: Are there any things you don't like about your area? (What are they?)

Sample Answer: Well, yeah, there are a few things. Parking's a nightmare, especially in the evenings. It's almost impossible to find a spot sometimes, and the parking fines are ridiculously expensive! Also, the public transport isn't great. The buses are often late, overcrowded, and unreliable, which is really frustrating when you're trying to get to work or appointments on time. And finally, there's not a lot of green space. It's quite a built-up area, so it can feel a bit claustrophobic sometimes and I really miss having parks or gardens nearby.

Question 9: Do you think you will continue to live there for a long time? (Why/Why not?)

Sample Answer: I’m not sure yet. I like living here, but it depends on my future job or family plans. If I get a good opportunity somewhere else, I might move. But if things stay stable, I could see myself staying for a while. It really depends on what happens.

Question 10: Do you like living in the countryside?

Sample Answer: Yes, I like the countryside because it’s peaceful and the air is fresh. It’s a nice change from the noise and traffic of the city. I enjoy the natural scenery and slower pace of life. However, I think I would miss the convenience of city life if I stayed there too long.
