Part 1 - Introduction and Interview

Question 1: How often do you send text messages?

Sample Answer: I send text messages every day. It’s the fastest and easiest way to stay in touch with friends and family. I usually send short messages or use messaging apps like Zalo or Messenger. Sometimes I send voice messages too if I’m busy.

Question 2: Is sending text messages popular in your country?

Sample Answer: Oh, absolutely! Texting is huge in my country. I mean, practically everyone uses it, from my grandparents to little kids. It's way more popular than calling, actually. People use it for everything – making plans with friends, chatting with family, even for work sometimes. You know, quick updates and stuff. There are tons of different messaging apps too, so it’s not just limited to the standard ones that came with the phone. I think it's just become such a deeply ingrained part of daily life, it's hard to imagine not using it.

Question 3: Did you send more messages when you were younger?

Sample Answer: Oh, definitely! Way more. I mean, texting wasn't as expensive then, so we'd just be constantly messaging our friends, even about the most trivial things. Remember those days of sending hundreds of texts just to plan to meet up for a coffee? And then there were the endless chains of silly jokes and memes… Now, I mostly use WhatsApp or other apps with free messaging, so it’s less about the quantity and more about the quality of communication I guess. I probably only send a few important texts a day now, whereas back then, it felt like my phone was practically glued to my hand.

Question 4: Do you reply to messages as soon as you receive them?

Sample Answer: It depends on what I’m doing. If I’m free and see the message right away, I usually reply quickly. But if I’m busy or need time to think about my answer, I may reply later. I don’t like to keep people waiting too long, though. I think it’s polite to respond within a reasonable time.

Question 5: Do you like to send messages to your friends? (Why/Why not?)

Sample Answer: Oh yeah, definitely! I'm constantly messaging my friends. It's just so much easier than calling, especially if it's just a quick update or to ask a simple question. Plus, you can send photos and videos really easily, which is great for sharing funny things or just keeping up with what everyone's doing. Sometimes I even have little group chats going with different friend groups for planning things or just general chit-chat. I guess I prefer it to calling because it doesn't interrupt anyone – they can reply whenever they have a spare moment, unlike a phone call which needs immediate attention. It's definitely my preferred way to keep in touch.

Question 6: What kind of messages do you usually send? (Why/Why not?)

Sample Answer: Well, it really depends on who I'm messaging. If it's my family, it's mostly quick updates – like "just got home," or "picked up groceries," – things that are short and sweet. With my friends, it's a total mix. Sometimes it's silly memes or funny videos, other times it's more serious stuff, like plans for the weekend or just venting about something that happened at work. I try to avoid sending long, essay-like messages because I know people are busy. For work emails, it's all professional, of course; clear, concise, and to the point. I try to be respectful of everyone's time, so I avoid unnecessary jargon or overly casual language there. I rarely use text messages for anything really important, though – I prefer email or a phone call for that.

Question 7: Do you prefer sending text messages or making phone calls? (Why/Why not?)

Sample Answer: I usually prefer sending text messages because they’re more convenient. I can reply whenever I’m free, and it doesn’t interrupt what I’m doing. But if something is urgent or needs to be explained clearly, I’ll make a phone call. It depends on the situation, really.

Question 8: Have you ever experienced any issues with delayed or undelivered messages? (Why/Why not?)

Sample Answer: Yes, I have, especially when the internet connection is weak. Sometimes my messages take a long time to send, or they don’t go through at all. This can be frustrating, especially if it’s something urgent. I usually try to call the person instead when that happens.
